Interesting. I am able to get over 200 fields pushed up because of a sexy connection and some tricks, but I still don't want to give up. :)

I will look over the alternative.

On an aside do you know if I publish from Visual Studio if maybe it has a different effect?

Richard,

Sorry for the late response. Other than what I've gotten from Microsoft Support, that's pretty much all I know.

Check out this thread: http://www.codegirl.net/?p=408#comment-1729 nobleacuff has his own battles with this and has a reliable approach.

Thank you for the ping on Linked In. I wouldn't of known that my email client has been filtering all my blog email to spam!

I'm glad you've found a way around this. I've ended up doing the very same thing in my past few months of not blogging. I also realized that the limit of promoted fields tend to vary on what server I'm on. This is still a strange bug. Sigh!

I've been dealing with this issue for two weeks now and just came up with a fix that appears to have solved all of our problems. I've got a more detailed post on my blog (http://acuffgroup.com/2009/01/21/tip-for-publishing-infopath-form-to-sharepoint-library/) but the short version is: don't have InfoPath promote the columns when you publish; rather pre-create them and tell InfoPath to connect to them. This has cleared up all of our publishing issues, and we're linking about 65 columns from a very complex form.

Hello Christina,

I really really really really don't want to accept that there is no way around that 30 seconds issue. Do you have any other information whatsoever that might be able to help me? My solution hinges on having well over 100 fields (it's complicated) and I cannot remove any fields at this point in time.

P.S - Thank you if nothing else for the post on this, I am still having trouble finding any info on this issue.

I always do things like this with IronPython, as it makes it trivial to explore the object I am working with on the fly. I highly recommend it.

Wow. Just the thought of a million docs in one library (even though its nested in folders) gives me the shivers. I feel for that content database.

My personal preference would be the web service approach simply because because it sounds like you have a heterogeneous mix of LOB systems you want to communicate with. (this is after you've checked out if there is anything you can use in the List.asmx service).

I'm going to also suggest you use a pull method vs. pushing updates to the LOB systems. I have no idea how many files are uploaded per day, I'd be more comfortable with a timer job to query and get all the information for that document library at a certain time vs. having an event handler going off all the time. That's just my 2 cents.
